The Lung Connection, Inc. came into being on February 28, 2003 as a Colorado Non-Profit Corporation. It received its IRS Advance Ruling as a tax-exempt 501(c)3 Charity in March, 2004. TLC received its permanent 501(c)3 status as a public charity on January 15, 2008. TLC was the brainchild of Susan Hamelin, and was structured in the weeks after her own lung transplant on December 9, 2002.

Patients and caregivers from other hospitals and treatment centers are welcome on a space available basis. TLC, Inc. is a comprehensive resource for recipients and their caregivers, both personal and professional. It supports and facilitates the protocol of the University of Colorado Hospital Lung Transplant Team. TLC does not offer medical advice or services. It exists to provide support, hope, and courage in the face of this incredible state of the art adventure.

From January, 2005 to date, TLC has had the privilege of serving the housing needs of of more than 65 family stays. One family has stayed with us fifteen times
